Common Mistakes Homeowners Make When Choosing Their Roofing Contractor

Choosing the lowest price: your insurance company is paying for the work.  You should choose the contractor that you feel the most comfortable with, that can work with your insurance company.

Getting multiple estimates or bids:  Your insurance company has software that has fair market pricing built in.  If a contractor has a price way below or above that price, it should raise a red flag.  A quality contractor will be able to come to an agreed price and scope of work to do your roof with your insurance company.

Getting a deductible waived or a free upgrade:  GA House Bill 423 was passed and it is now illegal for a company to offer to pay deductibles.  Please consider whether or not you can trust a company that is willing to break the law and whether you want to be a party to that.

Trusting a sales representative because he is sharp and well spoken:  Many sharp men work for start-up companies with very little history and financial stability.  Do your research!  Make sure the company you are dealing with is accredited with the BBB, financially stable and fully insured, and comes highly recommended from a network you trust.

Not replacing your roof right away:  By not replacing your roof right away, you expose yourself to further damage, and to higher prices. Material prices have been increasing steadily for the past 3 years, and all indicators point to this trend continuing.  You also risk the availability of the recoverable depreciation funds provided by your insurance company once work has been completed.

Not checking for the warranty: You only want to do business with a company that has a minimum of a 10 year warranty and has some longevity in business so that you can be assured that they will be there when you need them.
